Dubique

Dubique (also spelt Dubuc, and not associated with Pointe Dubique) is a small coastal village in Saint Patrick Parish on the southeastern coast of Dominica. Perched along the Dubique – Fond Saint Jean Road, the village offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and is nestled between Grand Bay and Fond Saint Jean. The area is characterised by its steep terrain and lush vegetation.

Natural Features of Dubique

The Dubique River, a modest waterway, flows through the village and is fed by the Moulin Ravine, a tributary in the surrounding hills. These waterways contribute to the region’s rich biodiversity and support local agriculture. The village’s coastal location offers access to fishing and other marine activities, integral to the community’s livelihood.

Historical Context

Dubique has a history of resilience in the face of natural disasters. In 2015, Tropical Storm Erika caused significant damage to the village, relocating many residents to safer areas. Despite these challenges, the community has maintained its cultural heritage and still stands as proof of its spirit and perseverance.

Dubique’s unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical significance makes it a noteworthy location within Dominica’s diverse landscape.
