Dangleben’s Pinnacles

Dangleben’s Pinnacles is one of Dominica’s most celebrated dive spots, located within the protected area of the Soufrière-Scott’s Head Marine Reserve (SSMR). This world-class underwater location draws divers from around the globe to explore its volcanic topography, vibrant reef systems, and abundant marine life—all beneath the island’s southern Caribbean waters.
Unique Volcanic Formations and Depths
The dive site is named after a dramatic cluster of five underwater volcanic pinnacles, which rise from the seabed at depths of approximately 80 feet (24 meters) and ascend to around 35 feet (10 meters). The pinnacles are blanketed in colorful sponges and hard and soft corals and form a striking underwater landscape. Their sharp vertical structure makes for a visually stunning and technically fascinating dive, offering plenty of swim-throughs and overhangs for exploration.
Rich Marine Biodiversity
Dangleben’s Pinnacles is teeming with marine life all year and is especially active during winter months when schools of jack species such as bar jack, crevalle jack, and horse-eye jack frequent the area in pursuit of baitfish. Sea turtles, moray eels, and octopuses are commonly seen among the coral heads, while blue creole wrasse cascades over the pinnacles in shimmering clouds. The reserve’s regulations support and protect the marine biodiversity here, contributing to its reputation as one of the most pristine reef environments in the region.
Dive Conditions and Experience Level
The site offers moderate currents and is ideal for intermediate and experienced divers. Visibility often exceeds 80 feet, making it a favorite among underwater photographers and marine researchers. The depth variations and steep topography require good buoyancy control but reward divers with a thrilling underwater experience.
Conservation and Protection within the SSMR
Situated inside the Soufrière-Scott’s Head Marine Reserve, Dangleben’s Pinnacles benefits from strict conservation measures. The SSMR spans Scotts Head to Anse Bateau, near Pointe Michel, and includes several other acclaimed dive sites like Scotts Head Drop-Off. The reserve, managed collaboratively by local communities and environmental agencies, ensures sustainable diving and marine biodiversity protection for future generations.
Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a visiting enthusiast, Dangleben’s Pinnacles offers a dynamic blend of geological beauty and ecological wonder, making it a must-dive destination on the Nature Island of the Caribbean.
