Augustus Gregoire

Augustus Gregoire (1936 to 4 February 1972) was a Dominican wicketkeeper-batsman from Roseau who represented the Windward Islands in West Indian domestic cricket. He is listed as a left-handed batter who could keep wicket.
Domestic and first-class career
Gregoire made two first-class appearances during the 1968–69 Shell Shield season. He debuted against Trinidad and Tobago in January 1969, playing as a specialist batter while Bryan Mauricette kept wicket, then featured four days later against Jamaica where he top-scored with 43 not out from number seven. Across both matches he compiled 68 runs at 34.00, figures consistent with regional and international ledgers.
Legacy and recognition
Gregoire’s name endures in the Augustus Gregoire Premier Cricket League, the DCA’s top domestic competition, with fixtures regularly staged at Botanic Gardens and Benjamin’s Park. Contemporary tributes also note that, after his passing in 1972, Gifford Walsh became Dominica’s long-serving wicketkeeper at island level. His brief first-class window, later memorialized by the premier league title, places him in the lineage of Dominican cricketers who helped shape Windwards cricket before the move to Windsor Park Sports Stadium as the island’s principal venue.
