Nathaniel Lovell Becomes One of Five Master Beekeepers in the Caribbean

Nathaniel Lovell has earned the prestigious Master Beekeeper certification from the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, placing him among only five master beekeepers in the Caribbean.
The National Beekeepers Cooperative Societies Limited has extended congratulations to Lovell, describing the achievement as a major milestone for professional beekeeping in Dominica and a boost for the continued development of the local honey industry.
The University of Florida programme is recognized as a leading standard in beekeeping education, combining advanced scientific study with practical assessment in honeybee biology, colony management, pest and disease control, pollination and sustainable apiculture practices.
According to the cooperative, Lovell’s certification strengthens local technical capacity and supports ongoing efforts to improve training, mentorship and industry standards across Dominica’s beekeeping sector.
Lovell has served the organization in several leadership roles, including as former president and vice president. During that time, he contributed to mentorship, training and industry development, helping to guide both experienced beekeepers and new entrants into the sector.
His work has also extended to initiatives aimed at improving honey standards in Dominica and the wider Caribbean. The cooperative noted that he has worked alongside the board in collaboration with the Dominica Bureau of Standards and the Association of Caribbean Beekeepers Organizations to support quality assurance and stronger market opportunities for honey producers.
The achievement comes at a time when the beekeeping sector is seeking to expand through training, improved standards, stronger partnerships and greater recognition of apiculture as part of agriculture and rural enterprise development.
The National Beekeepers Cooperative said Lovell’s certification is not only a personal accomplishment, but also an important gain for the sector, as Dominica continues working to strengthen consumer confidence, improve production practices and position local honey producers for wider market growth.
