Jerlani Robinson Ends 15-Year National Cricket Career

Former Dominica national cricket captain and Windward Islands opening batsman Jerlani Robinson has announced his retirement from national cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished 15-year career representing Dominica at various levels.

Robinson made the announcement just weeks before the start of the 2026 Windward Islands Senior Men’s Cricket Tournament, describing the decision as one of the most difficult he has had to make but one he believes is appropriate at this stage of his life and career.

It’s been 15 years representing Dominica from different age group levels all the way to the senior team. I had the opportunity to lead every single age group up to the senior team as well. It’s been a tough decision,” Robinson said.

The 32-year-old reflected on a career that saw him progress through Dominica’s youth ranks before earning selection to the Windward Islands Volcanoes, where he gained valuable first-class cricket experience competing alongside several regional and international players.

Robinson said wearing the national colours was always a privilege and that captaining Dominica at various age levels remains one of the greatest honours of his sporting career.

Among his fondest memories was leading Dominica to victory in the Under-19 championship, a tournament he described as a defining moment after overcoming personal challenges earlier in his youth career.

I remember I had a tough Under-19 tournament and then I was selected as captain. I went on to have the best Under-19 tournament that year,” he recalled.

Looking back, Robinson said he achieved most of the goals he set for himself as a cricketer, including representing his country at the highest regional level. He added that one lesson he wished he had learned earlier was a deeper understanding of his own game.

I think on the back end of my career I understood myself better, and that is what I attribute to the last three years of being more consistent,” he explained.

Robinson also expressed gratitude to the Dominica Cricket Association, his teammates, coaches, family and supporters who stood by him throughout his career.

I honestly want to thank the association, my family and friends for the support over the years,” he said.

While his national-level playing career has come to an end, Robinson leaves the game as one of Dominica’s respected modern cricketers, having represented the island with distinction and served as a leader to many younger players who have followed in his footsteps. His contribution to Dominican cricket over the past decade and a half has helped shape the sport’s development both on and off the field.
