Health Minister Outlines Infrastructure Improvements at National Hospital
The Dominica Hospitals Authority is preparing to undertake a series of infrastructure improvements at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital as part of ongoing efforts to enhance patient care, accessibility and operational efficiency at the country’s main healthcare facility.
Minister for Health, Wellness and Social Services, Cassanni Laville, announced the planned upgrades during a recent update on developments within the health sector. According to the minister, the works are intended to improve the experience of patients, visitors and healthcare workers while addressing several infrastructure challenges that have emerged over time.
Among the planned improvements is the relocation of key administrative services to more convenient locations within the hospital compound. Laville explained that the billing offices and cashier services will be moved closer to the main entrance, making them easier to access and reducing the amount of movement required by patients and visitors seeking assistance.
The Dominica Hospitals Authority also intends to address areas of the facility affected by water ingress during periods of heavy rainfall. Officials say corrective works will help protect infrastructure, improve comfort levels within the building and reduce disruptions associated with severe weather conditions.
Additional upgrades will focus on bathroom facilities located within patient rooms. These improvements are expected to enhance drainage systems, improve functionality and strengthen hygiene standards throughout the hospital. According to health officials, modern and reliable sanitation facilities form an important part of delivering quality healthcare services.
Laville said the planned works form part of a broader commitment to maintaining and improving healthcare infrastructure across Dominica. He emphasized that patient comfort and safety remain central priorities for the ministry and the hospital authority.
“These improvements demonstrate our ongoing commitment to ensuring that patients receive care in a safe, comfortable and efficient environment,” the minister stated while outlining the project.
The upgrades come as the public health system continues to expand services and modernize facilities throughout the island. Officials believe the planned improvements will contribute to a more accessible and resilient hospital environment while supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to residents and visitors alike.
