Dominica Bay Oil Veterans Honored for Decades of Service and Quality Production

Two long-serving members of the Dominica Essential Oils and Spices Cooperative Society Ltd. (DEOSCSL), Arthur Francis of Bagatelle and Michael Lora of Petite Savanne, have been recognized for their decades of outstanding contribution to Dominica’s bay oil industry. The awards were presented during the cooperative’s Annual General Meeting held at the Goodwill Parish Hall on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

Arthur Francis has been an active member of the cooperative since May 12, 1973, and remains a consistent producer of “top-quality bay oil.” The society’s citation described him as someone who “is always present and participates in educational meetings and annual general meetings, often offering words of encouragement toward the development of the society.”

Michael Lora, who joined the cooperative on July 29, 2005, was similarly commended for more than 20 years of production and service. The citation noted that he “continues to be an active producer of top-quality bay oil and is always willing to assist when called upon,” adding that he had served on the nominating committee for several years.

Both men received tokens of appreciation for their commitment and loyalty, presented by members of the cooperative’s executive. Their recognition comes at a time when Dominica’s bay oil sector continues to play an important role in the island’s export economy, supporting livelihoods across the southern and eastern districts.

Officials at the event emphasised that the awards reflect the cooperative’s appreciation for members who have upheld quality standards and kept the traditional bay oil industry alive through dedication and hard work. The DEOSCSL also reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable production methods and expanding global market opportunities for Dominican essential oils.
