New High-Tech Concrete Block Plant Launched at Canefield
Dominica’s construction sector received a significant boost with the launch of a modern concrete block manufacturing facility at Canefield by Prime Developers Ltd, a subsidiary of PH Williams & Company Ltd. The new plant promises to double national output capacity and raise the standards of local manufacturing.
Managing Director Darryl Williams described the facility as a milestone in both industrial innovation and environmental responsibility. “There is a notion… that businesses in the construction industry tend to operate in dirty and polluted areas with little regard to maintaining a sound environment. But this is not what you see here today,” he told attendees. “A block manufacturing facility can be built with five-star quality.”
The fully automated, high-tech plant is designed to produce, in a single eight-hour shift, up to 28,800 four-inch blocks, 19,200 six-inch blocks, or 12,800 eight-inch blocks. When combined with output from the company’s older sister facility across the river, the group now has the capacity to meet more than twice the island’s current demand for concrete blocks.
Williams said the investment reflects confidence in Dominica’s ongoing infrastructure growth and the company’s commitment to modernization. “Every square inch of this facility has been built to be durable, practical, neat, and pleasing to the eye.”
The plant was officially unveiled during a launch ceremony that also recognized the island’s major distributors of concrete blocks. Prime Developers Ltd intends to leverage this expansion to support national construction projects, including residential housing, commercial development, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
The initiative marks another step forward in Dominica’s push for private sector-led growth and domestic production capacity.
